Many churches (which are nonprofits) are seeing their congregations age without a younger generation participating at the same level financially. Most congregations are dependent on monthly giving to operate, and like most nonprofits, most of that funding comes from a small group of people. Many churches are aware of the opportunity that legacy gifts could offer, but they lack an understanding of how to have planned giving discussions with their parishioners. The reality is that most church members have not included their church in their estate plans, but research says that many would do so if asked.
